Embrace Self-Care
Self-care is not selfish; it is necessary. Your mental and physical health is important for keeping the rest of your life manageable. This includes:
- Regular Exercise: Incorporating movement into your day can help reduce stress and increase energy levels. Exercise can seem like an impossible thing to fit into your day but try things like a walking treadmill that fits under your desk or putting on music and dancing while you do chores.
- Happy Eating: Make sure to have a balanced diet to have a balanced life. Fueling your body with healthy foods will help you feel good and get the energy to keep up with your day while indulging in some occasional fun treats is important to keeping yourself mentally happy.
- Good Night Sleep: While this might seem like an obvious answer, sleep can often be something we take for granted. Generally, 7-9 hours is a healthy amount of sleep but everybody’s clocks are different.
- Mindfulness Practices: Taking time to do things like yoga, meditation, and hot baths, can really help with your mental health. Starting your morning or night off with something peaceful for your body and mind can really help start off and end your day peacefully.
- Listen to your body: If you are tired, rest, if you are hungry eat. We often end up so busy we forget to stop and get a snack, or drink a glass of water. We might feel like we have too much to do to go to bed early or take naps during the day. A well-kept body and mind is much more productive than a tired, hungry, or stressed one.
Set Boundaries and Learn to Say No
An important practice to keep. Understand your limits and be firm in what can and can’t commit to. Politely decline invitations that don’t fit in with your schedule. Practice saying no to things that will only add to your already busy schedule. Don’t let anyone else dictate what you can and can’t do with your time.
Prioritize and Organize
Getting your life organized is important to get your life in balance. Remove any added clutter that is keeping your life out of your control. Whether it’s the messy closet you’ve been avoiding,m or that overfilled refrigerator stuffed with leftovers and expired sauces, having an organized life will make such an improvement on how your life is managed.
Reach Out to Others
Don’t be afraid to reach out to others and ask for help when help is needed. Whether it’s family or friends, there are probably lots of people in your life who would be willing to help and take some of your workload off your plate. There might be people in your book club, at church, or at your workplace who would love to connect and help you out as a friend.
Find Time to Unwind
Incorporate activities into your life that you love and that help you relax. Maybe you want to read a book, or go on a nature walk. Indulging in fun and mindful activities is good for the body and soul. If you don’t allow any time to do the things you want to do, then you won’t ever be able to find a balance. Taking time off might seem impossible but it is all about finding pockets of time to do things that you enjoy. When you have to drive to the grocery store or the mall, you can listen to your favorite song or an audio book you’ve wanted to read. When you are cleaning up in the kitchen or doing the laundry, you can watch a fun movie on your phone or watch YouTube videos for new hobby ideas.
